Infrequent and low intensity fire, much like prescription (Rx) fire, has created diverse habitats across our region for millions of years. Whether lightning strike or indigenous peoples promoting plant and wildlife species, fire has been a part of shaping what we consider natural in our region. However, fire suppression and prevention over the past 50 years is detrimental to our native ecology and increases the risk of catastrophic fire events. Many of our native and rare plant and wildlife communities depend on fire.
